Grouse Mountain...Twice

Yes. On purpose obviously. Saturday it was Ben's birthday so he decided a little hike up a mountain was his thing so he left lunchtime on a beautiful glorious sunny day. By the time the rest of us had got ourselves together and gone up in the skyride (cable car) it was about 5 degrees and quite late in the afternoon!
But I saw my first bear, and my first lumberjack!
This bear is called Grinder. Rachel was thinking she wanted to get a job at Grouse Mountain, until she realised that the staff have to feed them! The lumberjack show gave us a taster of the kind of competitions that the lumberjacks used to partake in...!

The views at the top were amazing as you can see, yes that is a snow capped peak! No snow on Grouse yet but it is one of the main local snow hill s when the season starts. So that was the first visit. Squirrels and deer as well just wandering around, and we spotted a wild bear at the peak too. Too far away to worry about though!
Tuesday morning came around, I had no work and I needed a challenge so persuaded Mark to join me on the Grouse Grind. That is, instead of trundling up to the top of the mountain in the sky ride, we would hike it.
It was long and hard. Once you've taken the first step up, there is no flat or gentle slopes - just up and up. 'Steep' doesn't even cover it! We sweated so much, and more than once did Mark, er, comment on whose idea it was to attempt it!

The real low point was being overtaken by small children and people almost running up it. Saying that we made a reasonble time - 9 minutes behind Ben, our resident seasoned hiker!
The ride down was lovely - and only costs 5 bucks. bargain! did we feel good! and no aches and pains today either!
